

IOLI: INFORMAL LEARNING FOR ADULTS
COORDINATING INSTITUTION: University of Nicosia
Purpose
The purpose of the partnership is to build a consortium of experts that will share their knowledge and expertise about informal adult learning in various EU countries. The experts will provide background information about their countries’ policies and resources on informal learning. The emphasis will be on opportunities for informal learning in various subjects that are provided to the public (adults) through informal learning contexts such as long-distance courses, internet courses, environmental parks, natural history museums, science centers, galleries, nature trails and others.
Objectives
This partnership will follow innovative approach and use different methodologies and strategies in order to achieve the following objectives:
• Increase the number of people in adult education and improve the quality of their experience, whether at home or abroad
• Improve conditions for mobility for both trainers and learners
• Improve the quality and amount of co-operation between adult education organisations (NG0s, researcher centres, Universities)
• Develop innovative adult education and management practices, and encourage widespread application
• Ensure that people on the margins of society have access to adult education, especially older people and those who left education without basic qualifications
• Support innovative ICT-based educational content, services and practices
Major Outcome
Production of a publishable handbook, which includes all the reports about policies and practical cases regarding informal learning opportunities for adults in Europe. The coordinating institution (UNIVERSITY OF NICOSIA) will combine all cases in order to produce the handbook.
